Dark Souls: Hydra

Now that I think about it I probably should have done the Undead Dragon the same way well better late then never you know? Well lets get to it...

Now In my opinion the Hydra is a really annoying boss and for two reasons honestly, the first Hydra you fight in Darkroot Basin depending on which way you came from depends on the difficulty. If you come down through the tower near the bridge you fought the Hell-Kite Dragon on, it might be a bit difficult if you aren't ready for what's down there, at the very bottom near the door to the Basin is no not a boss if you've seen those Black Knights wandering around he's compared to that because he only shows up once his name is Havel the Rock why the weird name because the armor he wears means you barely do any damage to him but with his Dragon Tooth which is also know as a Great Hammer which means you better have an amazing shield/stamina if you intend to block his attacks which you can with enough time to recover stamina before his next swing it's just his two handed downward slam you have to watch out for because that is unblockable it will deplete your stamina and almost kill you. But once you deal with him which is easy if you stay behind him you get his ring Havel's Ring increases your equipment load by 50% so pretty good if your carrying heavy stuff.

After you leave that area you will see your next enemy the Crystal Golems depending if you came down from the Darkroot Garden you can totally bypass Havel now the Golems aren't hard you just have to be careful with pulling more than one as all their attacks are slow but strong when they raise both arms move back or get hit by its AOE crystal shock wave. This is also a good place if you wanna farm for blue titatnite shards. Speaking of which if you come down from the Garden you will be able to fight a Black Knight with a Halberd if your able to kill him there is a chance you will get it and that weapon is OP (Over powered) in a good way, before you even upgrade it it has a high base attack damage but there is a chance you will have to wait till next play through to get it, Lucky for me a phantom I summoned was nice enough to drop it as well as the Black Knight Shield so yeah.

Well once your done killing the Golems I'm sure by now you'll realize that there is something off in the distance shooting water at you and if I'm not mistaken I'm sure you've learned those are best avoided. Now heal up or whatever just make sure the last bonfire you rested at is close as you will die a lot here. Now I think it'll be easier if you have the Rusted Iron Ring as it makes walking through water very easy and why do I need to walk through water you ask? Well its the only way to get close to the Hydra just stick to the left as the right has a drop off that killed me plenty of times. Now if the Hydra is still shooting water at you while your in the water just dodge and inch closer until it attacks with its heads where you can chop them off, now remember what I said don't try to rush him to get in some cheap shots as you'll fall off the drop off and die. But once he is dead you'll get souls a dragon scale and a Dusk Crown Ring that increases the amount of spells (miracles, spells, pyromancies) you have but half your health.

HINT:
Now that he is dead there is a secret here, if you run along the left side all the way to the back quit and reload a stronger yellow crystal golem will appear there and once you kill it you get a new NPC who you can summon and sell you certain spells you wouldn't be able to get otherwise.

If you head up the ladder all the way up to the top you can fight some of the Forest Hunters Covenant and if you kill them you meet Alvina who will let you join the Forest Hunters and give you the Cat Covenant Ring why is this important because if you wear it she will summon you to defend the forest and if your able to kill three other players this way she will reward you with the Fog Ring which turns you invisible better than going to the Raven Girl for it. But joining this covenant is also important because if you go back down to Blighttown you will see Shiva there and behind him a ninja wearing the Fog Ring and if you kill him you get his Dark Wood Grain Ring which let you do NINJA FLIPS but seriously it lets you evade quicker than normal as long as your not weighed down.

Now the second Hydra you fight is past the Great Hollow which is also in Blighttown there's a lot of Crystal Gecko's and items here but they're all over the place so its up to you to get them if you want, about halfway down you will find more Basilisks how wonderful and at the very bottom a bunch of Mushroom Men and Mushroom Man Children I just ran past them because they have a lot of health and pack a huge punch.

Once your out of the Great Hollow you will be in Ash Lake and its pretty creepy here as there is no ambiance just dead silence but in the silence you hear water splashing that means the Hydra is nearby.

Now this Hydra is pretty scary as it actually comes right up to the land but before that run out of the giant trunk and go to your right as there is a bonfire there I completely missed it but you won't have to so once you rest go back to the left and dodge his water jets (The Dark Wood Grain Ring is good to have here as you dodge faster) and wait for him to come up to you, here you can attack his base just be careful if he moves away as you can fall into Ash Lake and die, but as he's moving away you can lock on and shoot arrows as a cheap move until he's out of range getting in some extra damage. Just don't try to fight him further down the sand barge I'm guessing it is as there are Man-Eater Shells than can be quite annoying plus if you fight this thing further down the sand there is a chance he will jump over it and if you follow you will get stuck on the lower side of Ash Lake and possible no you definitely will fall in and die.

But once he is dead you get more souls and another dragon scale, but by now I'm sure you've noticed that tree all the way at the end if you make your way towards it and go around it Ash Lake continues on and at the very end is one of the last Everlasting Dragons you can go behind him and cut his tail off for a Dragon Greatsword and still join The Path of the Dragon Covenant which gives you a dragon eye a Dragon Headstone which turns your head into that of a dragon and lets you breathe fire, the Dragon Eye is almost like a summon sign you put it on the ground and it searches for someone with a Dragon Scale now I'm not sure how it works so I can't really give a description for it but on the wiki it says its only for 1v1 duels to see who gets a dragon scale well mine didn't really work so eh don't know what to tell you. But the Everlasting Dragon takes Dragon Scales like other Covenants take Humanity and this increases your rank in the covenant but here the more scales you give you it he will in turn give you the Dragon Torso Stone and a spell called Force so you in turn get to be a dragon well until you die anyway.

So this one was pretty long but it helped so enjoy your souls weapon and anything else you might have gotten from here see you next time.
