Dark Souls: Hellkite Dragon

Now this maybe be the simplest optional boss ever so take my advice.

Now when you first meet the Hellkite Dragon he's going to damage you no matter what after your fight with the Taurus demon and your newly opened area your going to go down the stairs of a much shorter tower, there will be another long bridge and opposite of that you will see Solair staring at the scenery but never mind him for now. Now once you take a few steps out of the archway onto the bridge you might think you just have to deal with the demons in front of you, but once your a few steps out the dragon will make his appearance with his "Crossing the Burg" attack where he will fly across the bridge breathing fire burning everything on it and I mean everything. You will be hit by it and you cannot block it now it won't insta-kill you unless you have low health most of the armor you have should have a high fire resistance allowing you to survive and to take all the souls the dragon just fed you by killing the enemies.

After his crossing the burg attack he will perch himself up on the church in front of you and he won't attack until you get halfway across the bridge but halfway there is a staircase on the right side you can run down to get under the bridge I highly recommend getting down there in a hurry. Once down there if you take the door on the left you will go down a flight of stairs and be able to kick down a ladder to create a shortcut to the bonfire in the Burg and the bridge.

Now for this boss your going to need a bow (you can buy one from the merchant in the burg for 500 souls) and arrows (you can also buy from the merchant in the burg) and a high dexterity (dexterity determines the effectiveness of weapons such as Scimitars and Bows&arrows). I suggest grinding in the burg until you can buy over 180 arrows and then head back up but not to the top of the bridge head back up to the area under the bridge. Once there head out the door going out across the underside of the bridge now here you have to be careful moving along the narrow edges of the bridge to keep from falling off, once you pass the second arch there will be a soldier waiting for you, you can easily back stab this one so he's not a problem.

The problem is the soldier along the edge of the end of the bridge he is the spear wielder (you can take him out easily if your a pyromancer) the trick is to wait for him to be at the corner then swing once at him hitting his shield will cause him to retaliate when this happens put your shield up and he will get knocked back falling off the bridge. He's dealt with now move to the opening and keep your shield up and quickly deal with the rats don't get hit to much or you will be poisoned.

Once these rats are dead pillage the humanity they possibly dropped and head back out the door but be careful and slowly make your way to the right and pull out your bow and arrows aim up and you should have a clear view of the dragon's head once your here unload on him, he will jump onto the bridge just keep shooting him, there is a possibility he will cover his head with his wings and heal himself don't give up if you can get into the cycle of shooting his head shooting him on the bridge and shooting his head as soon as he lands on the church again you will be done soon with him. (I did this with under a 100 heavy arrows and a 14 dex.) Now once he roars (signaling his tail is gone) your almost there (DISCLAIMER: I do NOT know if you can still get the Drake sword by doing this if you want to be safe take his tail out first.)

Once he's dead your free to walk across the bridge at your will there is a bonfire in the church and a lever that unlocks a shortcut between the Burg and the Undead Parish. Enjoy your souls and possibly your new Drake sword.
